A status match lets you carry recognition you earned with one program into another. In cruising, matches come in two kinds: within a family of sister lines, and between unrelated companies. The second kind is rarer and changes often.

Matching Within a Cruise Family

This is the most reliable kind. Royal Caribbean Group describes a one-for-one tier match between Royal Caribbean’s Crown & Anchor Society, Celebrity’s Captain’s Club and Silversea’s Venetian Society; you generally need to enroll in the program of the brand you want to sail, and Royal Caribbean says the matched status can take up to seven days to appear. Norwegian honors Latitudes Rewards status on Oceania and Regent sailings. Because these matches are part of the programs’ standing rules, you can plan around them — while still checking the exclusions.

Matching From Another Company

Some lines invite members of other loyalty programs — other cruise lines, and sometimes hotels or casinos — to request equivalent status. MSC Cruises, for example, publishes a status match program for its Voyagers Club: members of other programs submit a request, MSC assigns a tier using its own conversion rates, and only one request is allowed per guest. Other lines have run limited-time matches or none at all.

Because outside matches start, stop and change without much notice, we do not list current offers here. Check current offers on the line’s own loyalty page, or ask us, before you book on the strength of a match.

Before You Request a Match

  • Read which programs and tiers the line accepts, and what evidence it needs.
  • Note how long the matched status lasts and what you must do to keep it.
  • Check which benefits are excluded from matched status.
  • Remember that some programs allow only one match per person, ever — time it for a cruise you are sure about.
  • Keep your original program active; a match usually does not transfer your points.

Is a Match Worth It?

A match is most valuable when you are genuinely curious about a new line and would sail it anyway. It is less useful as a reason to switch if the new line does not suit your style. Compare the ships and total cost first — then let the match tip the balance.

A Realistic Example

Imagine a traveler who has sailed many times with one line and wants to try a sister brand for a special trip. Within a linked family, the process is usually a matter of enrolling in the second program and requesting recognition of the existing tier. Between unrelated lines, the same traveler might find an open match one year and none the next. The lesson is to plan the cruise first and treat any match as a bonus. Keep screenshots or statements of your current status ready, since most programs ask for proof.
