Every cruise loyalty program is a ladder. The first rung is usually reached after one cruise, the top rung after many years of regular sailing. What you receive on each rung varies by line, but the pattern is similar everywhere.
Typical Perks by Level
| Level | Perks you might see (varies by line) |
|---|---|
| Entry tiers | Member pricing and offers, a welcome-back event, a loyalty newsletter, small onboard discounts |
| Middle tiers | Priority check-in or boarding, access to a loyalty desk, some complimentary services such as laundry or internet time, invitations to special events |
| Upper tiers | Exclusive lounges, complimentary drinks at set times on some lines, priority tender and dining reservations, larger discounts, gifts |
| Top tiers | Recognition at the highest level, extra free services, and on some lines a complimentary cruise once a milestone is reached |
These are general patterns, not promises. Lines add, remove and resize perks, and some apply only on certain ships or sailing lengths. The authoritative list is always the benefit chart on your line’s loyalty page.
Perks That Save the Most
Some perks are pleasant; others put real money back in your pocket. The valuable ones tend to be complimentary drinks or happy hours at upper tiers, free laundry on long voyages, internet time, and discounts on specialty dining or spa services. Priority tender tickets and boarding save time rather than money, but on a port-heavy itinerary that time is precious.

Two Example Ladders
| Program | Tiers, lowest to highest (per the line) | Points needed |
|---|---|---|
| Royal Caribbean Crown & Anchor Society | Gold, Platinum, Emerald, Diamond, Diamond Plus, Pinnacle Club | 3, 30, 55, 80, 175, 700 |
| Norwegian Latitudes Rewards | Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Sapphire, Diamond, Ambassador | 1, 20, 45, 75, 150, 350, 700 |
Both use points per night, so the numbers translate roughly into nights at sea before bonuses. Other lines use different scales; see programs by line.
Status and Upgrades
Higher tiers do not usually guarantee a better cabin, but they can matter when a line chooses whom to upgrade or when guarantee cabins are assigned. Our sister site Cruise Upgrades covers upgrades in detail — including how loyalty status affects upgrades — so we will not repeat it here.
Keep Your Tier Working
- Check that your loyalty number is on your booking well before sailing.
- Read your tier’s benefit list before boarding, so you know what to ask for.
- Visit the loyalty desk or event early in the cruise; some perks need to be activated.
Perks Families and Couples Share
Couples and families often reach different tiers because one person has sailed more. Some programs extend certain benefits to everyone in the cabin, while others apply them only to the member. Before a cruise, check whether perks such as lounge access, priority boarding or free laundry cover your travel companions, and whether a guest needs their own membership to receive them. If you sail together all the time, make sure both of you are enrolled so your points grow at the same pace.
